Gaither Homecoming in Atlanta
The Gaither Homecoming Concert on Friday night was sold out (according to Clear Channel and several others). The Arena at Gwinnett Center seats up to 13,000 and every seat was taken! Not a surprise for Gaither, especially since it's been more than a year since the singing troupe has been to Georgia.
And if the crowd numbers weren't enough to convince you that Atlanta is a great Gaither venue, look at the extra talent that showed up for this concert: Eva Mae LeFevre debuted her new album with Mark Fuller; Jimmy Jones recited Suppertime; Naomi and the Segos performed in the second half of the program with the Homecoming Friends; Calvin Newton, Nicole Watts Jenkins and Eddie Wallace (Sunshine Boys) were on-hand as well.
In fact, there was so much "extra" talent that Gaither knew before the concert began he was going to go until at least 11:30 PM.
That he did.
Traffic was a nightmare, as was to be expected with Gwinnett County and I-85 rush hour; but parking was a ton better (and much cheaper... try FREE) than the Philips Arena/Downtown Atlanta venue.
I don't see future dates announced for Atlanta yet, but I'm sure that an evaluation will be conducted on this Arena versus Philips or other possibilities in metro Atlanta. We'll have to wait and see.
