What's Ahead on Daniel Britt & Friends?

Oh My! This newsletter has been a long time coming. So sorry for the delay in sending out an update. First off: Here's what's coming on the next few editions of the show: Week of 11/05/07: We visit with Doug Oldham and his wife Laura Lee and recount the early days of Doug's career. In addition, and as you've come to expect, we'll also hear music spanning Doug's career -- beginning with Doug's very first album that was recorded in Nashville and sponsored by Bill Gaither. Hear stories of how Laura Lee and Doug first met, the start of long lasting friendships with Dr. Jerry Falwell and Bill Gaither, and find out about Doug's family and health today. It's an hour with this gem in Gospel music: Doug Oldham -- on the next Daniel Britt & Friends! Week of 11/12/07: Roger Bennett was a great quartet man, pianist, friend, and communicator. Daniel talks to Roger's wife, Debbie Bennett about the man so many loved dearly. We'll also hear updates from the Bennett family, clips from the funeral service featuring the chaplain at M.D. Anderson, and the songs Roger was best known for. It's an hour of honor to one of the best! Week of 11/19/07: It's an hour of classics -- with a live twist! Join Daniel for a trip down memory lane (or an education for many) as classic groups of Gospel Music's golden era take the stage. All the songs in this week's show were recorded before a live audience, which often adds to the sound and excitement. Don't miss favorites from Gold City, The Hemphills, The Downings, LeFevres, Oak Ridge Quartet, Perrys, Hayes Family, Greenes, Blackwoods, Kingsmen, Nelons, Greater Vision, and the Speers. Your front row seat is reserved! Daniel Britt & Friends is heard each week throughout the U.S. and Canada on XM Satellite Radio's enLighten 34 - Mondays at 7PM ET, Thursdays at 10PM ET, and Saturdays at 12 Noon ET. You can also hear it online at xmradio.com, at AOL Radio, or with DirecTV on channel 828. Listen in Atlanta: Saturdays at 7 p.m. on 90.7 & 107.1 NewLife FM. In the nation of Papua New Guinea, you can hear the broadcast on Wantok Radio Light every Sunday at 12 Noon. After the broadcast, you can download the extended interview from www.danielbritt.com (audio downloads will resume eventually). Thanks for your patience through the beginning of this new season. I've heard from a lot of you asking about the audio downloads and yes, they will come back one day real soon. Daniel Britt www.danielbritt.com

You can learn more about his memorial service that takes place later today here: http://forums.singingnews.com/Roger_Bennett_Passes_Away/m_2254428/tm.htm We will continue with our special on Legacy Five, but will precede the program with a tribute to Roger. Here's the updated overview of what's planned: Coming up on the next Daniel Britt & Friends: In the quartet world of gospel singing, a group of FIVE guys may seem to be a quandary. Not so when talking about Legacy Five! This "quartet," with their talented pianist Roger Bennett, carries on a legacy the spans generations. Glenn, Frank, the two Scotts and the one and only Roger are here for the hour. It was recorded in September 2006, just a matter of days after Roger's reoccurrence of leukemia and he talked with us about that current situation he faced. In addition to the special hour-long highlight on Legacy Five, we also begin the program with a tribute to Roger Bennett. This is certainly a program worth holding out for and it's coming soon on Daniel Britt & Friends. Mercy's Mark next week on XM
Fri 3/2/2007 3:59 PM

Just a quick update to let you know of the next couple of broadcasts on Daniel Britt & Friends from XM 34. Join me Monday, because something is definitely happening with this particular group of guys! The music leaves a mark of mercy everywhere it's heard, which of course includes XM Satellite Radio. Join Daniel's hour long conversation and new album preview with the men of Mercy's Mark! The quartet is relatively new to the music scene, but it carries a combined experience that translates into top quality, hit-producing music. Group manager Garry Jones is probably best known for his time with the "Midnight Cry" makeup of Gold City; but, did you know he once worked for the Singing News, J.G. Whitfield, and the Dixie Echoes? Creativity and artistic genius fuel the group's mission to paint the world a message of God's outpouring of Mercy on every life. Don't miss this in-depth hour! And don’t miss the week of 3/12 when Greater Vision stops by for a chat, followed by Karen Peck & New River the week of 3/19. Daniel Britt & Friends is heard each week on XM Satellite Radio's enLighten 34 - Mondays at 7PM ET, Thursdays at 10PM ET, and Saturdays at 12 Noon ET. You can also hear it online at xmradio.com, at AOL Radio, or with DirecTV on channel 828. A look ahead to Daniel Britt & Friends on XM

Can you believe it's almost February? This month has flown by (and I have a feeling it's not going to get much slower)! Thanks for all the comments about the show. We're having fun with The Booth Brothers this week on the broadcast. These guys deliver amazing harmony with every song they sing. The hour will be filled with conversation with and songs by the Booth Brothers. Learn how they're related to the profound songwriter, Mosie Lister; hear some of their humorous stories; preview songs from their new CD; and more. Throw out your blues and replace it with the Booths! You'll have an opportunity to hear it tonight at 10 PM in the East (4 PM in the West) and again on Saturday at noon Eastern, 9 AM Pacific. Then, next week: As a way to welcome our favorite Homecoming guitarist back to the Gaither touring circuit, we'll feature some outstanding instrumental guitar work and get to know Kevin Williams a bit better. Kevin has stories to tell, like working with Wendy Bagwell and the Sunliters, Bill Gaither, and Anthony Burger. If you've ever had an opportunity to talk to Kevin before or after a Homecoming concert, you know how approachable he is -- and funny, too! Kevin will be here for the whole hour and you'll love the instrumental sounds that he brings. The week of 02/05/07 will bring some brand new sounds from the newest project by Allison Durham Speer -- and we'll spend the hour talking to her! Allison married into a rich heritage of Gospel singers, and carries on that tradition with the finest ability and class. She's a great story teller and gives us a glimpse into her relationship with father-in-law Brock Speer, uncle Ben Speer, and others. This is another artist to include in the list of those who can "just stand flat footed and sing!" For Valentine's Day, the week of 02/12/07, LOVE is the theme for this Valentine's edition of the show. Daniel features an hour of music about God's love. Plus, we'll feature some songs from Jim & Melissa Brady's "Christian love songs" CD. Share the love of good music with XM 34 this Valentine's season. I've printed a preliminary calendar of future guests and show ideas on the website (http://www.danielbritt.com/friends.htm) if you'd like to get a sneak peek at what's coming; but remember, the schedule is subject to change. Spend Christmas Day with David Phelps!

In our last newsletter there was a sneak preview to what's ahead for the show on December 25 (and week). At the time of the last newsletter, the show was still in the planning stages. Now, we're proud to announce that David Phelps will be the featured guest for the entire hour. The first airing will be on Christmas evening, Monday, December 25, at 7PM Eastern (4PM Pacific). Here's the synopsis: We wrap up our month-long Christmas music and memories and spend Christmas day (and week) with David Phelps! Listen as Daniel features nearly every selection from David's acclaimed Christmas solo project, in addition to seasonal sounds from the Gaither Vocal Band that featured David. Daniel and David talk about Christmas traditions (past and present), family, his Christmas tours, and of course ... food! It's a highlight hour of one dynamite vocalist who pulls out the stops for Christmastime. David's Christmas music is amazing and we wanted to make you aware of that special program. In the meantime, we have some equally great guests join us for Christmas memories... starting with this week's program featuring Connie Hopper, Janet Paschal, Eva Mae LeFevre, and a legendary surprise guest who is no longer with us. (Here's a hint: his first name starts with a "J" and his birthday is on Christmas Eve.) This program will begin a month-long series of sounds to highlight the Christmas season. Week of 12/11/06: Our Christmas music and memories continue with seasonal sounds and special guests! This week, we'll catch the Christmas spirit together with Squire Parsons, Gary McSpadden, and Russ Taff. The music will be timeless and classic -- dating back to the early 1980s from Squire, The Bill Gaither Trio, and The Imperials. Week of 12/18/06: Our Christmas music and memories continue with seasonal sounds and special guests! This week, we'll catch the Spirit of Christmas with Woody Wright & Stephen Hill. These two artists are on their third annual "Spirit of Christmas Tour" together, and they've just recorded a new Christmas project by the same name. Woody shares memories of childhood Christmases and will give us a sneak-peak behind some of his collaborations with Bill & Gloria Gaither. Stephen has also written some new music for Christmas and will give us insight behind those songs. Plus, we'll get to hear these new sounds for the season! Week of 12/25/06: David Phelps (see above) Week of 01/01/07: We welcome new friends to our table when we sit down with The Crist Family. These people are a delight to meet and you'll hear the unique twist of a Southern Gospel family group hails from the Pacific Northwest. Aside from their fun personalities and cool stories of ever-changing lives, the harmony they have is amazing. Daniel has found a gem of a group with which to kick of the New Year. You'll certainly want to be present for the introduction to the Crist Family. Week of 01/08/07: One whole hour with Joel & LaBreeska Hemphill. They carry a legendary name, but more importantly, they carry such candor that you'll feel like you're sitting in their living room reminiscing about the good times. And reminisce is just what will happen on this broadcast! LaBreeska tells us all about her relation to the Goodmans, Joel gives us a glimpse into how he writes songs and tells us about some of his most well-known compositions. Plus, we "get real" and talk about the ups and downs throughout their lives, including Joel's bout with clinical depression and how LaBreeska and the Lord remained faithful through it all. Pull up a chair and get to know better the music -- and the couple behind the music -- of The Hemphills. Let us hear your comments on what we're doing; it's like fuel in our engine! Upcoming November guests

Here's an update of what's ahead on Daniel Britt & Friends on XM 34! This week, Jeff & Sheri Easter join me (you have two more chances to catch the show: on Thursday at 10PM Eastern and Saturday at 12Noon Eastern). Next week (11/06/06), it's an hour of Classic Gospel Music! My friend Mark Fuller brings a wealth of knowledge about some timeless classics in Southern Gospel. We'll hear from the Statesmen, the Downings, the Cathedrals, the Hoppers, Bob Cain, the Speers, and Gold City, plus many others. It will be an hour of reminiscing and education. And still to come: Week of 11/13/06: Daniel sits down with Annie & Kelly McRae “from start to finish.” You’ll hear about their childhood, growing up singing in church, their friendships with Mark Lowry and The Crabb Family – and since the most recent news is that Kelly is leaving the duo, we’ll talk about what’s ahead for Annie and forming her new group and Daniel makes Kelly promise to keep a reunion in mind for the future. It’s an entire hour with the McRaes and their music! Week of 11/20/06: This will be one legendary hour, because the entire hour is spent with the late George Younce! Recorded from George's home on a snowy February night in 2003, Daniel brings you memories from this classy gentleman of Gospel Music - including stories about the Cathedrals, J.D. Sumner, Signature Sound, and singing his heart out at Carnegie Hall! This will certainly be an hour you don't want to miss! Week of 11/27/06: If you're familiar with the Gaither Homecoming video or concert series, you're sure to know Lynda Randle. And, to know Lynda is to love her! We've got her infectious personality for the entire hour. Find out about her childhood and family, her husband and daughters, and her introduction to Gloria & Bill Gaither. Week 3 & other upcoming shows

Week 3 is now underway for Daniel Britt & Friends! Here's an update of a few changes made at the website: There is now a page dedicated to the show - http://www.danielbritt.com/friends.htm and, on that page, you can track who will be on upcoming episodes. Plus, you can find a review of recent guests. You can also find helpful links and audio related to each program once the show has aired on XM. I'll try to cover several weeks at a time in these emails so you're not bombarded too often. Here's what lies ahead: Week of 10/9/06: Daniel highlights music from the '90s, featuring groups like The Cathedrals, The Bishops, Daryl Williams Trio, Wendy Bagwell & the Sunliters and more. Plus, a classic moment awaits with the Blackwood Brothers. - Week of 10/16/06: Daniel talks to Mark Lowry for the hour! Listen and hear about Mark's early life (including a song selection by ten-year-old Mark Lowry), his start in comedy and life after the Gaither Vocal Band. We'll feature some of Mark's favorite music -- and yours as well. - Week of 10/23/06: Daniel highlights music that may have never "saw the light of day." It's an hour of forgotten gems that were buried on the albums. Plus, record promoters Rhonda Thompson and Jim Stover tell us how radio singles are chosen, and why these lesser-known songs get left behind. - Week of 10/30/06: An hour with Jeff & Sheri Easter. Join Daniel with the Easters as they tell their story of growing up in two well-known bluegrass music families, then the marriage that began a new era in "bluegrass-Gospel." Sheri tells us who influenced her singing and about the spelling of name (has something to do with Lamb Chop). Jeff gives us an exclusive into his REAL name (has something to do with "Famous Cookies"). You'll have to listen to be truly enlightened! Again, as a reminder, you can download the full and complete interviews with most of our guests from www.danielbritt.com - and you can subscribe to the interviews (as a podcast) if you have an RSS Feed program on your computer. Lots of things changing and added to the website - check back often! -Daniel Britt http://www.danielbritt.com

Premiere Week on XM

Last night was the premiere broadcast of "Daniel Britt & Friends" on XM 34, enLighten. It kicked off a tribute week to Anthony Burger. You can hear hourly tributes to him all week, now through Saturday. One major reason for starting this email newsletter was to keep you informed of upcoming programs. At this time, here's who's and what's planned: 9/26-30 Remembering Anthony Burger 10/2-6 Eva Mae LeFevre and the late Jimmy Jones 10/9-13 Southern Gospel Music from the '90s 10/16-20 Mark Lowry Each week, you will have three opportunities to catch the show. Here are the scheduled broadcast times: - Mondays at 7 PM Eastern/4 PM Pacific - Thursdays at 10 PM Eastern/7 PM Pacific - Saturdays at 12 Noon Eastern/9 AM Pacific "Daniel Britt & Friends" will be heard on XM Satellite Radio's channel 34, enLighten. You can also hear it online at xmradio.com, at AOL Radio, or with DirecTV on channel 828. I'm working on a page at my site, www.danielbritt.com devoted to the show. It will be where you can find upcoming programming info and other program-related details. I'll let you know as soon as it's available. I'm also thinking about a way to better categorize the interviews - alphabetically comes to mind. I may try and also categorize them by subject matter (separating the musicians from the authors, etc...). Email me your thoughts on that. Last night, Dan Dixon from XM called and we went on AMERICA channel 10, LIVE, to talk about my new program. He asked me for a good Southern Gospel selection to introduce the non-SG world to the music and "Shoutin' Time" by the Hoppers came to mind. You can hear the audio from last night with Dan Dixon and me if you'll visit http://www.danielbritt.com and click on BLOG. That's it for now; will touch base again soon. -Daniel
